What is Micro-chipping?
Micro-chipping is a painless procedure of placing a small microchip under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. Microchips contain a registration number and phone number of the registry for the particular brand of chip. A handheld scanner reads the radio frequency of the chip and displays contact information to recover pets to their families. Pet owners have this procedure done to help locate their pet if the pet happens to become lost.
If your lost pet is brought to an animal shelter, you will be contacted promptly so that you can be reunited with your pet. This procedure also clears up the problem of multiple people trying to claim ownership to your pet. The information provided on the chip proves who the rightful owner really is.
Where can I have my pet Micro-chiped?
Micro-chipping is administered at our animal hospital after a routine veterinary appointment. A well-visit is necessary to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to have something inserted into their body. If there is an injury at the routine injection site or if your pet is feeling under the weather, the procedure will be done at a later date so that your pet has time to recover.
What Your Pet Will Experience?
Our vet will numb your pet’s skin and place the microchip inside of a thing needle. The needle is similar to those used for vaccinations. Once microchip is pushed under the pet’s skin it remains lodged. This chip remains in place and will not cause an injury that area of the body.
